From the Editor
Greetings from our new office. After publishing IPG for almost 30 years from a building on Broad Street, in Philadelphia, my company pulled up stakes last month and relocated to the 12th floor of a renovated building on Spring Garden Street. That makes this the first issue being produced in our new facility.
Our move went pretty smoothly. I had spent weeks clearing out 30 years of IPG files, and what was left fit in nine boxes. They were waiting for me in my new office when I came to work the Monday after the move, and by afternoon every file had a new home. My walls are still bare but I'm sure it won't be long till the place has that lived-in look again.
What's different about our new abode, aside from everything being spotless and new? For one thing, office areas are situated in a more logical manner, with departments that work together located near one another. But with less floor space overall, no two offices are very far apart anyway. Another plus: large windows cover virtually every inch of the outer walls, letting in lots of sunlight and offering great skyline views of Philadelphia.
In short, our modernized office environment has uplifted spirits and improved the workflow, benefits everyone hopes to get from a relocation.
Adjusting to this change hasn't been the only excitement in my life lately, though. The day after we moved, I attended the AIIM On Demand show, conveniently relocated from New York to Philadelphia. A few weeks before that I mingled with more than 100 university in-plant managers at ACUP 2005, hosted with aplomb by Rick Wise, director of Printing Services at the University of Missouri. Among the many excellent sessions was the roundtable discussion I moderated on the future of in-house printing. The camaraderie at ACUP was wonderful, as well.
This month I'll be attending two other in-plant conferences: the College and University Print Management Association of Canada conference, at which I'll be a speaker, and the International Publishing Management Association conference, which I'll be attending for the 11th time. I look forward to seeing many of you at these excellent events.
