GPO Names New Chief Acquisition Officer
Herbert H. Jackson Jr. has been named chief acquisition officer for the U.S. Government Printing Office (GPO). In this role, Jackson will direct the planning and management of the GPO’s acquisition program that includes multi-million dollar federal acquisition and procurement initiatives of technical and information systems.
Jackson had been serving as acting chief acquisition officer following the passing of Dr. Dean Fish last fall. He has been a GPO employee for 27 years, holding numerous positions in the acquisition area, beginning his career as a procurement clerk in printing procurement.
In recent years, he worked closely with the Department of State in developing and soliciting a multi-million dollar contract for the GPO to produce the new e-Passport for Americans and he oversaw the acquisition process from beginning to end. Jackson also was the contracting officer on the acquisition of the GPO’s Federal Digital System (FDsys). And, he conducted negotiations and oral presentations that led to a multi-million dollar contract award.
