How G7+ Helps In-plants Better Serve Their Organizations
Color consistency is a crucial part of maintaining an organization’s brand – a top priority for in-plant printing operations. But achieving accurate color reproduction can be a challenge, especially when your organization has stringent criteria.
This is where the G7+ calibration standard takes center stage.
“Giving them the ability to manage that in-house gives them a leg up in regards to brand quality and their ability to reach out to their customers or their end users to make sure the branding is right,” says Jordan Gorski, executive director of Idealliance. “Also, the efficiencies that come with G7+ … that's going to save your organization money and give you quicker time to market.”
Beyond that, Ron Ellis, a consultant and G7 Expert trainer, adds that G7+ training “gives you the language of color” to help everyone involved with the print process — from designers and printers to customers and end users — communicate about colors, thereby making the color reproduction process smoother.
Ellis has been involved with G7 since its launch in 2006. He notes that the updated G7+ standard has expanded to touch more areas of the print industry.
“G7 itself is really huge, and most of North America is printing to it,” Ellis says. “G7+ is newer, and it has a couple things that might help people.” For instance, the updated standard includes information for wide-format printing, something the legacy standard did not delve into.
For in-plants who are investigating or have already added services that go beyond ink and paper, this is great news — it means it’s easier to maintain color consistency across a range of print technologies.
Where to Find G7+ Training
G7+ expert training is available in person, live online, and asynchronously online to offer maximum flexibility for printers’ busy schedules. As part of the training, printers run through several hands-on activities to learn how to measure and calibrate the color reproduction of a variety of machines.
G7+ training will also be hosted at PRINTING United Expo 2025 in Orlando, Florida, Oct. 22-24. The accelerated Expo session will span two days, giving attendees time on the third day of the main event to explore the show floor.
“At the Expo, we can actually get out on the show floor and be in different booths,” Gorski says. “There's quite a variety of print applications being showcased at the Expo, and the solutions providers that we partner with have the ability to showcase their technologies so folks can see that print run there on the show floor and really make the most of their experience at the Expo. In the past, we've partnered with different OEMs to run their wide-format presses or proofing devices, do some commercial print applications there on the show floor, so you get that same hands-on experience that you would in a traditional print service provider-hosted in-person training.”
As an added bonus, Gorski says the day before PRINTING United Expo will feature the inaugural G7/G7+ Exchange, a free in-person opportunity for G7 Experts, G7+ Experts, and those who are curious about G7+ to connect and uncover the power of the calibration standard.
