After ranking the largest in-plants in North America by both sales and employees, In-plant Impressions has used those lists to calculate the sales per employee at each of those operations.
Ranking in-plants by the average amount of sales each employee generates allows us to compare the efficiency and productivity of different-sized operations. It often brings smaller in-plants to the top of the list. For instance, the in-plants at the University of Oregon and the State of New Mexico each have 10 or fewer employees, but both rank among the top 10 in sales per employee. Also, several university in-plants with more than 25 employees sit much farther down on the list when ranked by sales per employee.
Some of our key findings in 2025:
- The average sales per employee number for all in-plants listed is $242,453, which is $3,699 less per employee than a year ago.
- Six government printing operations, two healthcare in-plants, and two universities made the top 10.
- Only three in-plants made the top 10 list in both overall sales and sales per employee.
