In-plants Promote Their Value During Awareness Month
In-plant Awareness Month wrapped up in February, an annual event created by the In-plant Printing and Mailing Association (IPMA) to recognize and celebrate the contributions of in-house design, printing, mailing and distribution professionals. In-plants all around the country spent the month promoting the value they provide to their parent organizations.
In Sanford, Florida, Seminole County Public Schools Print Solutions welcomed district leaders and staff to an open house where they got a behind-the-scenes look at how the shop supports the district’s schools, departments, and community. They got to follow live jobs from submission to finishing and learn about the in-plant’s sustainability efforts. Interactive tour stops featured custom printed playing cards, notepads, metallic ink sample swatches, branded water bottles, and plenty of ideas to take back to their teams.
Kansas State University brought nearly 50 people to a special presentation highlighting the in-plant’s capabilities, with a deep dive into file prep and mailing services. The audience was a mix of designers, marketing staff, and administration/office staff. They enjoyed receiving giveaways like stickers, notepads, and a small flip book that featured 20 of the shop’s most common stocks.
“Many people seem to perceive us as a simple copy shop and are surprised to learn the full array of services we offer,” says Director Anne Oswald. “We are trying to position ourselves as a one-stop shop that can produce all their tangible marketing/communication assets.”
In Lincoln, Nebraska, University of Nebraska Print & Mail Services focused on social media to get its message out during In-plant Awareness Month, tagging posts with #InPlantsRock on Facebook and Instagram. The shop showcased its history and its future, with posts about past directors, old shop videos, new promo items, new client online stores, its soup cookoff, and conference/event planning. During the month, the in-plant also welcomed an Advertising and Public Relations Design & Layout class. Students got a behind‑the‑scenes tour of the shop along with tips on preparing for a future in print.
University of California, San Francisco also used social media to expand awareness of its services. It posted several videos highlighting its services and the operators who do the hard work. Here’s one: www.facebook.com/reel/1320995929835389
