Legislation Introduced to Change GPO's Name to Government Publishing Office
Senators Amy Klobuchar and Saxby Chambliss introduced legislation to change the U.S. Government Printing Office’s (GPO) name to the Government Publishing Office.

Public Printer Davita Vance-Cooks has advocated for changing GPO’s name in Congressional testimony and other public statements. The word “publishing” better reflects the current role that GPO plays in providing access to Government information in digital format through the agency’s Federal Digital System, apps, and eBooks. Throughout GPO’s 153-year history, the information needs of Congress, Federal agencies, and the public have evolved beyond only print and GPO has changed its business model over time to meet its customers’ needs.
"Publishing defines a broad range of services that includes print, digital, and future technological advancements," said Public Printer Davita Vance-Cooks. "The name Government Publishing Office better reflects the services that GPO currently provides and will provide in the future. I appreciate the efforts of Senators Klobuchar and Chambliss for introducing and supporting this bill. GPO will continue to meet the information needs of Congress, Federal agencies, and the public and carry out our mission of Keeping America Informed.”
