Production Print DFEs: What's Next?

Though modern digital front ends (DFEs) can have hundreds of features, its possible that only 10% of those features are used. Why is that?

In a new Printing Impressions blog,  Marc Mascara and Eve Padula of Keypoint Intelligence discuss this question as they look into the future of production print DFEs.

For one thing, they say, design, page and office applications have matured to the point that nearly all production print prepress issues can be resolved upstream in the application. Color management, image compression and other production features like composition require little or no interaction from the DFE.
