It appears that offset is thriving in the Lone Star State. This year alone, we've reported on three Texas in-plants that have added offset devices to supplement their print shops. In this month's issue, we check in on UTHealth's new five-color Heidelberg. 

Sustainable practices are becoming more important in the printing industry. To help printers better determine how they can improve their environmental impact, Heidelberg has developed a free online Environmental Self-Assessment. 

The Digital Packaging Summit 2015 is a hosted, invitation-only conference designed for senior managers and executives in label and package printing and converting. The event will take place from November 9-11 in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

The value of hands-on experience when learning about the printing industry is priceless. During In-plant Awareness Week, Printing Services at California State University, San Bernardino welcomed students into its facility to try their hand at offset, digital and wide-format production.

For many in-plants, short-run digital printing is the key to their future growth. Not so at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Though just signed into law in December 2014, GPO's name change from Government Printing Office to Government Publishing Office has been "a long time coming," says John Crawford.

Improving and upgrading technology is nothing new for the eight-employee in-plant, which lies about an hour east of downtown Los Angeles, in the foothills of the scenic San Bernardino Mountains. But as services like shredding and wide-format printing have been added and expanded to better serve the needs of the university, Printing Services still values its offset capabilities.

IPG Editor-in-Chief Bob Neubauer escaped the harsh winter weather in the Northeast to check out Canon Solutions America's second anniversary event in Florida. He also took a trip out west to Los Angeles to visit two different in-plants and attend Konica Minolta's "Art of Disruption" event.

IPG went Hollywood this week, venturing out to Los Angeles to visit two of the country's largest in-plants. Editor Bob Neubauer got the lowdown on how the city's 108-year-old in-plant expects to grow in the future, and was impressed by the efficiency of the in-plant operation at the Church of Scientology.

After first presenting the Remote Service online troubleshooting platform 10 years ago, Heidelberg continues to expand the platform's portfolio.
