Heidelberg

Like the pure, glacier-fed mountain streams flowing down from the nearby Chugach Mountains, the Anchorage School District’s Publication Services group is now chemistry free. Since transitioning to an Agfa Azura TS chemistry-free computer-to-plate system, the in-plant has seen noticeable improvements in both the quality and efficiency of its work.

Heidelberg recently opened its doors to In-plant Graphics, offering a close look at its Print Media Centers and press manufacturing facility.

The start of each new semester at Nassau Community College in Garden City, N.Y., is not only a busy and stressful time for professors, faculty and the more than 25,000 students; the pressure is also on the eight-employee in-plant to produce a variety of classroom materials, marketing pieces and signage for the campus.

With traditional offset exhibitors like Heidelberg giving the Chicago trade show a pass, the digital print vendors were the new kings. Xerox, Canon, Konica Minolta and Fujifilm led the pack in booth size, and each of them had new inkjet production presses to proclaim.

The PRINT 13 trade show emphasizes the trend toward the Great Diversification Movement. The printing industry is enduring some violent changes from a technology standpoint. With the decade-long trend toward shorter runs continuing, digital printing—especially inkjet—stepping up its game, and electronic alternatives continuing to harvest market share, diversification is on the lips of many printers as they prepare to trek to Chicago for the quadrennial Fall classic.
