As it advocates for policies that support innovation, investment, and a circular economy, PRINTING United Alliance is monitoring federal initiatives in support of recycling. A July Congressional hearing highlighted two major proposals that signal a national shift toward more efficient, transparent, and accessible recycling — the CIRCLE Act, which would incentivize investment in recycling infrastructure, and the PACK Act, which would establish a new national framework for making claims about compostability, recyclability, and reusability.
Together with other bipartisan bills focused on data, access, and reuse systems, these initiatives reflect growing momentum to modernize U.S. recycling policy. The hearing also explored chemical recycling technologies and called for stronger U.S. participation in global plastics treaty negotiations — all developments that directly impact the printing and packaging industry’s role in advancing sustainable solutions.
