ACUP to Begin in Nine Days
In just nine days, the Association of College and University Printers (ACUP) conference will begin in Harrisburg, Pa. So far 94 in-plant representatives have registered for the the event. They represent 70 universities from 26 states, Canada, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia.
Starting with the opening reception on Sunday April 22, ACUP will offer numerous opportunities for in-plant managers to network and learn from one another. Some of the highlights will include:
- Barb Pellow, Group Director of InfoTrends, will discuss Trends and Opportunities for Success.
- Simon White, Print Shop Manager of Canterbury University, will provide a personal account of the devastating earthquake that rocked Christchurch, New Zealand, in February.
- John Meyer, Director of HUB Print and Postal Services at Rochester Institute of Technology, will share why RIT went through Group FSC certification.
- Barbara Childers, Document Services Director at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, will relate her in-plant's close brush with outsourcing and how the in-plant was able to reorganize, downsize and continue operating under a different organizational umbrella.
- Mark Fallon, CEO of The Berkshire Co., will discuss Understanding and Leveraging Your Mail Operation.
- Consultant Vic Barkin will discuss how to implement a culture within the in-plant that makes staff proud to work there, knowledgeable about services, and empowered to make decisions.
Panel discussions will cover Web-to-print, Operational Structures, Copier Fleet Management and more. Plus the entire group will visit Bucknell University, tour its in-plant and enjoy a screening of "Linotype: The Film," a feature-length documentary about the Linotype type casting machine.
