What printer hasn't heard of Chicago's famed Printers Row, that cluster of printing companies lining Dearborn and Clark streets in the city's South Loop? But as the printing industry prepares to make its annual pilgrimage to this city for Graph Expo in one month, the thriving print industry that once made Chicago the printing capital of the country is now just a shadow of its former self.
According to an article this week in Crain's Chicago Business, Illinois printing industry jobs plunged 45 percent last year to 29,113, from 52,575 in 2001. And on Printers Row, according to the article, only one company, Palmer Printing Inc., remains to carry on the legacy.
