Dental Distributor Bolsters In-plant with New Folder
Ultradent Products, a worldwide distributor of dental products, has expanded its in-plant with a new GUK FA45 FL2 folder from G&K-Vijuk. It will complement the South Jordan, Utah-based company's internal Print Shop, which it opened in 2011 with the purchase of a label press and a sheetfed press.
“After implementation of the print shop, we were looking for vendors to produce short run pharmaceutical-type folds, specifically for our high-mix, low-volume needs," explains Terrance Holbrook, printed materials manufacturing and procurement manager. "Finding companies unwilling to produce short runs, and a very limited choice of local vendors, we decided to purchase our own folder. This G&K-Vijuk folder takes #50 offset sheets and folds them down to sizes that fit in our extremely small medical-device packaging."
Just five months old, the GUK FA45 FL2 folder has produced more than 10 million folded pharmaceutical instructions so far, with the runs ranging from 5,000 to 30,000. It has worked out so well for the in-plant that it is now insourcing work from the outside.
"We are now offering our unused capacity in a second shift to local printers that have similar outsourcing limitations,” remarks Gary Gillett, director of materials management.
