Tired of turning down sign-printing requests? The newest iLEARNING+ course from PRINTING United Alliance, “Getting Started with Signage,” may be just what you need to keep those jobs in-house.
Led by industry expert Wendy Graves, the course walks users through a practical, phased approach to adding signage products to their existing print business — without overcomplicating operations. Graves is a partner with Make It Happen Signage Academy, training the next generation of sign pros with hands-on skills and insider know-how.
Skills users will learn throughout the course include:
- Which products to sell first
- Key questions to ask to guide better client conversations
- How to identify the right manufacturing partners to fill gaps
- Closing strategies to help win the job
“A lot of printers are already turning down sign work … not because they can't do it, but because they don't know where to start,” says Joe Marin, SVP, Member Services, PRINTING United Alliance. “This course gives them a clear, low-risk path to change that.”
“Getting Started with Signage” is designed as an introductory-level course and takes less than an hour on average to complete. While it is introductory, it’s recommended (not required) that users take “Print 101: Introduction to the Printing Industry” to help ensure a more successful learning outcome. But Marin notes that users shouldn’t limit themselves to just these courses.
“We have a strong catalog that includes wide-format printing courses that cover the essentials, color management, installation, and estimating,” he says. “‘Getting Started with Signage’ is really about business diversification. It's less about the equipment and more about how to build signage into what you're already doing.”
The course is for anyone who touches sales, operations, or client relationships. “It’s important for them to say yes with confidence when a sign opportunity walks in the door,” Marin emphasizes.
