U.S. Managers Attend Australian In-plant Conference
In-plant managers from Australia and New Zealand (and a couple from the U.S.) met this week in Cairns, Queensland, Australia for the NIPPACON 2014 conference, an annual meeting of the Network of In-house Print Professionals Australasia (NIPPA). Taking place in northeast Australia, not far from the Great Barrier Reef, the three-day conference focused on the growing trend of transitioning from traditional file storage methods to the Cloud.
NIPPA President Simon Giles—whose towering presence attendees of ACUP 2014 may recall—organized the in-plant conference, which wrapped up today with a Fancy Dress Party and seafood buffet. Among the memorable sessions, three NIPPA members shared success stories and described what they have done to stay ahead of the game. Speakers included Sue Hill, from the University of Southern Queensland, John Myles, with the Sydney Institute of TAFE, and Ketan Bedekar, of the Auckland City Council.
Representing the U.S., Cathy Skoglund, manager of Operations and Business Development at Arizona State University, gave a presentation on her student-run in-plant. Lisa Hoover, director of Publications at Bucknell University, and president of the Association of College and University Printers (ACUP), also gave NIPPA members an update on new developments at ACUP.
The highlight for many, though, was the keynote presentation by Kelly Cartwright, Paralympics gold medalist, who described her triumph over adversity.
