Washington State Printer Speaks Out
The battle to close one of most well-run in-plants in the country rages on in Washington state, with misguided senators continuing to make unsubstantiated claims that the state could save money by outsourcing its Department of Printing.
Seattle TV station KING-TV, channel 5, interviewed Director Jean-Luc Devis, and broadcast a short news report on Wednesday, with plans for a more extensive report on Sunday. Though most of his comments were cut short, he was able to make several good points.
"Communication is a core function of state government," Devis declared, when challenged with the idea that some feel printing is not a core function. He was also able to point out that if the in-plant were outsourced, each agency would have to learn how to buy printing, something they currently aren't as skilled at as Devis' staff.
