What is an Impression?
In his latest blog on IPG’s Web site, Ray Chambers looks into the definition of an impression. “Printers have been arguing about the definition of an impression for as long as we’ve had devices that put marks on pieces of paper,” he writes, adding that if you ask any three printers to define what an impression is, you’ll probably get three different answers.
The blog goes into the history of impressions, the different ways they are counted, and how impressions began to be used as a measure of productivity. The definition of an impression recently came to light when the “subject matter experts” hired by the Washington State Auditor’s Office could not explain the term during their audit of the Washington State Department of Printing.
