Pulling together the list of the 300 largest printing companies in the U.S. and Canada, as ranked by annual sales, isn’t easy. It’s a team effort that takes months of coordination, follow-up, analysis, and dedication.
Over the years it’s become even more challenging due to the impact of consolidation and various headwinds affecting annual sales for many companies. This year feels different though.
Last year, the 300th company reported total sales of $3.7 million. This year, that number increased to $5.3 million.
Beyond the bigger picture changes impacting the cutoff, there were some big changes in the top 10 companies as well. RR Donnelley, while still in the No. 1 spot with more than $6.2 billion in total sales, has pulled away even more from the pack at nearly double the No. 2 company Cimpress ($3.4 billion). Transcontinental, in the No. 3 spot last year at $2.8 billion, is in the No. 7 spot this year at $836 million, likely due to the sale of its packaging business to ProAmpac for $2.1 billion.
New to the list this year and firmly in the top 10 is Proforma in the No. 9 spot with reported sales of $668 million.
One trend I noticed this year is growth in the direct mail segment despite challenges facing mailing. The growth isn’t just reported among the top companies (although RRD did increase it’s segment sales from $987.23 million in 2025 to nearly $1.4 billion in 2026). Other direct mail companies throughout the list are experiencing significant growth: Wilen Direct noted an 11% increase; Direct Marketing Solutions saw a 55% increase (likely due in part to its acquisition of Johnson & Quin); ICS Corporation reported 18% growth; Nahan noted a 24% increase; and Specialty Print Communications reported a 20% increase. And that’s just within the top 50 companies on our list. You’ll notice that trend continues among many of the predominantly direct mail focused companies on this year’s list.
One of the things I love most about our annual list is that there is data for every interest. Some people I speak with want to know sales totals for the entire list, while others want to know the number of employees for the 300 largest reporting companies and how that relates to each company’s overall sales.
