Bob has served as editor of In-plant Impressions since October of 1994. Prior to that he served for three years as managing editor of Printing Impressions, a commercial printing publication. Mr. Neubauer is very active in the U.S. in-plant industry. He attends all the major in-plant conferences and has visited more than 170 in-plant operations around the world. He has given presentations to numerous in-plant groups in the U.S., Canada and Australia, including the Association of College and University Printers and the In-plant Printing and Mailing Association. He also coordinates the annual In-Print contest, co-sponsored by IPMA and In-plant Impressions.

The snowstorm that shut down the University of West Georgia (UWG) and much of nearby Atlanta in January was nothing compared to the gale that nearly blew away UWG's in-plant a few years ago. Back in 2009, UWG administration floated a plan to shutter the school's Department of Publications and Printing and reallocate funding. The idea was to begin contracting for printing services with outside vendors.

Before adding its new Intoprint DP-100GA+ digital envelope printer, Columbus State University Printing Services handled envelope printing a bit differently. The minimum order size it could print on its two-color ABDick was 500, and the turnaround time was between three and five days. And four-color envelopes? Forget it.

Yesterday’s mail piece automation and verification demonstration in Baltimore marked the first of six such events being presented by Buhrs and Lake Image Systems. The two companies are holding a six-city, cross country tour to demonstrate how mail piece processing, verification and job tracking solutions will reduce labor costs, improve productivity and reduce liability exposure. The next show in the series will take place this coming Thursday in Atlanta (3/13), and then continue in Dallas (3/27), Los Angeles (4/3), Chicago (4/10) and New York/New Jersey (4/17). Xplor 2003 brought MICR and one-to-one marketing to the forefront in Atlanta.
