At the recent In-plant Printing and Mailing Association conference, Palm Beach County’s Graphics Division was honored with the Larry Clements Video Award for an impressive video that highlights the impact an in-plant can have on the community it serves.
The Palm Beach County (Florida) Fire Rescue department consulted with Manager John D.L. Johnson about designing and printing new medication IV bag labels so its crews could provide faster assistance to patients receiving emergency treatment. Previously, crews used one generic sticker for IV bags and had to write information on it to signify the medication and dosage.
So the in-plant created a series of stickers with the correct dose and drip set already filled in for each of the 10 medications crews carry. In the video, Assistant Manager Carlos Duenas explains how the in-plant used its Mark Andy Digital Pro 3 flexo hybrid machine to produce them.
“This resulted in an order for 255,000 labels, which is a year’s supply. The Fire Rescue Department has already ordered another year’s supply since we printed the first batch and also added an 11th medication to their protocol.”
The award-winning video was a joint effort involving the in-plant, the Fire Rescue Department, and Channel 20 PBCTV.
“Having the opportunity to do jobs like this, that are helping to make our community a better place to live, are why I come to work every day,” says Johnson. “I know I’m not going out on that rescue truck to save people’s lives, but maybe in a way I am.”
