Printing Services at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington (UNCW) scored big points with its Athletics department recently when it used its wide-format printer to revamp an old trailer so that it can be used once again to sell concessions.
For years the trailer sat forgotten under the baseball bleachers. One day UNCW Purchasing asked Production Manager Steven M. Barrett for his help refurbishing it.
Barrett got his designer, Larry Honaker, to create a graphic featuring the UNCW logo and Seahawk mascot. The wrap was printed on vinyl using the in-plant’s Roland VersaCAMM VS-540i.
After hiring a painter to paint the trailer blue, Barrett and Honaker applied the wrap to it. Purchasing loves it — especially since the price tag was only about $3,500.
“They were quoted around $10,000 before coming to me,” notes Barrett.
With its new look, the trailer will now be used by Athletics to sell season tickets and other Seahawk products at university events.
