InfoTrends’ Digital Production Color research studies published in 2002 and 2005 showed a dramatic increase in the amount of short-run printing. Regardless of print technology, the number of color printing jobs with run length requirements of 500 or less increased from 29.6 percent to 50.5 percent during that three-year period. Meanwhile, those jobs with run lengths of over 5,000 declined from 32.6 percent to 20.1 percent.
